The 44th East Essex Regiment of Foot takes part regularly in displays, living history and battle re-enactments (At home and across Europe). The Regiment is affiliated to the Napoleonic Association of Great Britain and forms a fundamental part of the Allied Kings Brigade.  The regiment’s  CO,  Colonel Edwin Parker,  is also Commander of the Brigade’s County (B) Division.

For historical reasons the regiment represents the second battalion of this famous regiment, circa 1803 to 1816, as it was the 2nd 44th that fought through the Peninsular wars and at Waterloo. The first battalion spent most of this period in the American colonies.

As part of Leith's 5th Division, the 2/44th  served with great distinction through the Peninsular Wars, the taking of the Eagle of the 62eme at Salamanca is of course a landmark in the Regiment’s history.  It served  with Sir Dennis Packs 9th Brigade during the  Waterloo campaign.

In 2010, after celebrating the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Regiment, our members continue to represent every aspect of the military life of the period.  As a backdrop to our military drills, displays and demonstrations is the Living History military encampment in which we demonstrate the way of life of the officers, soldiers, wives and camp followers of the period.

We are of course now in a period of Bi-Centennial commemorations and celebrations up to Waterloo 2015.
